Latest in a line of self-balancing machines I have made. Incorporates many lessons learned from the previous models. Inspired by the famous Raleigh Chopper bike of the early 1970′s. The intention here after building some heavyweight, big and rather dangerous one wheeled machines recently was to build a fun, lightweight, stable machine constructed more like a bicycle. The Raleigh Chopper inspired concept suited the design quite well as the long saddle is useful to get your weight right for optimum balancing, as well as being an excuse to add some chrome bling! The parallel wheel design means it is classed as a “di-wheel.”
Uses an Arduino Mega as the brain, a Sparkfun digital IMU to sense which way is “up” and a Sabertooth 2 x 25 Amp motor power controller. Toothed belt drive to each BMX wheel. LiFePO4 “Headway” 24V battery pack. The brake levers actually control steering left and right. Twistgrip “throttle” on left handlebar controls acceleration and slowing down.
