    Two of the most prolific stars of the 86th Geneva Motor Show were the production-spec Koenigsegg Regera and the Bugatti Veyron’s successor, the Chiron.

    Starting with the Swedish megacar, following last year’s introduction in concept form, Koenigsegg claims that over 3,000 changes were performed to the Regera in order to make it ready for production.

    We could talk about the Regera’s comfort amenities and tech features ranging from electrically adjustable seats with memory function and heaters, to front and rear cameras, Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay connectivity, but what really sets it apart is found underneath the aerodynamic body.

    We’re talking about a bi-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine paired with three electric motors. Add the outputs and it will result to around 1,800 HP and 2,150 Nm (1,586 lb-ft) of torque, but because the internal combustion unit and motors don’t hit peak power at the same time, the official figures are “just” 1,500 HP and 2,000 Nm (1,475 lb-ft).

    This translates to 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 km/h (124 mph) in 6.6 seconds and 0-300 km/h (186 mph) in a blistering 10.9 seconds. The impressive performance doesn’t stop here, as Koenigsegg has created a car that needs just 20 seconds to go from naught to 400 km/h (248 mph).

    Bugatti’s newest vehicle, on the other hand, squeezes 1,500 HP and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque from the 8.0-liter W16 engine borrowed from the Veyron and fitted behind the two-seat cabin. Reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill takes 2.5 seconds, while the 200 km/h (124 mph) mark comes after 6.5 seconds and the 300 km/h (186 mph) mark in 13.5 seconds, and it will keep accelerating all the way up to 420 km/h (260 mph).

    The Chiron is 406 kg (895 lbs) heavier than its Swedish rival, which tips the scale at 1,590 kg (3,505 lbs), compared to the Bugatti’s 1,996 kg (4,400 lbs). There is a significant difference in the cost of the two hypercars, as whereas Bugatti has priced the Chiron from $2.6 million, Koenigsegg asks “just” $1.9 million for the Regera.
