In this part I show you how I get a NiCad to at least show some voltage being kept for a while. Te NiCad has run itself empty over time (it has not been used for a long period, and is dead now). It has been charged with the charger, how ever one day later all charge was gone.
The first method is actually using a power source to get the cell in phase one. The phase where it can hold at least a standing voltage for some period. All you need to do is tap the battery with a voltage double as high as the battery itself (2.4 volts at least, but don’t overdo it, not 6 volts and certainly not 12 volts). Use two good NiCad’s or like me a super capacitor. It will provide 10 Amps or more. Apply the current by tapping the cell. be careful not to heat up anything, not the cells you are using and not the cell being powered.
In part 3 I will use the relay to improve the cell even further, and I will show you some more details on how to test the batteries.
Note: these parts are clearly only the method for reviving NiCad batteries. If you want to revive lead acid batteries, Li-Ion batteries and / or Ni-MH batteries than watch part 3. I do not recommend you use high current to revive those batteries (only Ni-MH might endure it for a very short time).
